Tequila Sunrise

This one is an all time favorite made famous in the movie Tequila Sunrise starring Mel Gibson. Although, it’s origins go back to 1930s it’s still served up the same with some orange juice, grenadine syrup, and Tequila unmixed in a tall glass. Add an orange twist and a cherry for garnish. Maybe even a little green chili pepper to give it a little extra kick.

Sangritas
are another of Suave’s favorites.

You can use oranges, tomato juice, cilandro chile, pineapple. Sangritas are meant to be sipped with a shot of tequila. Doing it right is doing it the Mexican way: sipping some tequila then sipping some sangrita – repeat until you fall down under the table.

Watermelon-Basil Cocktail

This is a great little cocktail with a light and fresh balance. It’s sweetened with yellow watermelon, spiced up a bit with basil and chartreuse, and kicked up a bit with a shot or two of tequila. Real nice and light! So to speak; that is, until its full effect comes in after two or four or was that 7.

Matador

This one is a favorite but it’s a bit under appreciated. It’s just Blanco Tequila with pineapple and lime juice. Yeah, they may resemble Jackhammers or screwdrivers with the substitutions but it’s all in the presentation. Always serve up a Matador in a tall glass or if you’re in a pinch use a Martini glass. The lime juice and pineapple is what gives the Tequila that extra pop. Never mind the worm; look out for the bull..

What to drink with so many to choose from?

How about going back to the basics and ordering a Long Island Iced Tea. You know the one; it uses triple sec, tequila, vodka, gin, and even rum. Everything all in one – nice and neat. Add some coke and ice with a sprinkly spiral of lemon in a high ball glass and you got your evening going to a nice start.

How about a Mordadita? This is a little known tequila cocktail with a name that offers a morbid sense of humour. A Mordadita adds a bit of elegance and richness to your drinking pleasure. Knowing full well the meaning of the word it sort of reminds us of the better things in life. This is tequila injected with jalapenos and beet juice. Giving it a balanced body and flavor; reminding us all of a healthy and wealthy life.

Ah well, life goes on. If a Moradita isn’t your style maybe the classic Bloody Mary is more to your liking. Except we’ll twist it a bit and use Tequila instead. It’s called a Bloody Maria. Of course, it uses Tequila – plus a smattering of tabasco and worstershire sauce. Add a bit of lime juice and a goodly serving of tomato juice, a swift pinch of celery salt, a tiny puff of pepper, and maybe a bit of horseradish for extra tang and you’re good to go.

A real favorite in Mexico is the Paloma. If you like totally tart cocktails this one is for you. It’s because of the grapefruit juice. Just pour together 2 parts Tequila and 3 parts grapefruit juice and slam that down if you can. Garnish and salt to taste. If you’re not used to it you’ll choke for sure.
